I would like to kick off our music review blog with the epic and immortal song : ‘Time’ by Pink Floyd.

History: This song is the fourth track from the album ‘The Dark Side of The Moon’, which was released in 1973. Roger Waters got the idea of the song when he realized he was no longer preparing for anything in life, but was right in the middle of it (He was 28 then). Not surprisingly, this song raked in millions because of it’s sheer meaning and epic solo. The single edit version has a duration of 3 minutes and 33 seconds, and the album version has a duration of 7 minutes and 1 second.

What it tries to convey to us: This song tells us how time slips through our fingers, and we don’t even know how or when it did. At first, we don’t seem to care. But as we grow older, we begin to resent the time we wasted, and wish we could do more with it. Long story short, it justifies the phrase “Time is money”.

Review: The starting of the song itself is such that the listener becomes hooked. It starts off with ticking noises, and then gradually the ticking sounds become alarm sounds (expect a shock at 00:21). The actual instrumentals kick off at 00:56, and that’s where you submit to the song completely. The bass itself is so beautiful, you just want to keep listening to the song. The drums kick in at 01:11, and it’s sheer ecstasy. The vocals start at 02:30, and that’s when you die and go to heaven. A beautiful fact about the instrumentals from 00:00 to 02:30 is that you actually forget it’s a vocal song, and you don’t mind if the whole song is instrumental. Such is the powerful command of the song over us. The lyrics WILL make you cry (I GUARANTEE YOU). The slow voice of David Gilmour, mixed with the haunting background chorus will send guaranteed shivers up your spine. The guitar solo, one word: EPIC. The song ends with “The time is gone, the song is over. Though I’d something more to say”. That is a true masterpiece. Pink Floyd, having psychedelic as their main genre, completely captivate you with the music and the vocals. At the end, you will be left thinking about the time you have wasted in your life, and surely you WILL hit the ‘replay; button again because, face it; this song just blows your brains out!

Rating: It’s a no- brainer, this. It’s a clear cut 10/10!!

Soulful music, haunting vocals, mind blowing solo rifts, and all packed into one 07:05 song. It doesn’t get any better than this, people!

  1. You are so right… The whole album is as close to perfection as I’ve ever heard. I have listened to DSOTM probably a thousand times and never tire of it!

    • Completely agree with you there! Pink Floyd is, undoubtedly, the best Progressive Rock band in history, and I think DSOTM is their best piece of work! Anyone who loves Pink Floyd HAS to like “Time”. 😀 🙂

  2. Time and the whole Dark Side of the Moon album is amazing! Love Floyd! 🙂
